Certified copper recycling Copper, a key industrial metal, is grabbing headlines again as the global economy rebounds from the pandemic-induced downturn. Experts suggest that we may be on the cusp of an unprecedented copper squeeze that could disrupt supply chains in multiple industries. There are multiple factors behind the hype around copper’s soaring demand. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, China’s economic recovery has been robust and exceeded market expectations. China is responsible for half of the world’s copper consumption and is driving the global demand for this metal. Meanwhile, the push towards renewable energy and electric vehicles has added to this momentum, and copper has become an essential component for producing lithium-ion batteries, wind turbines, and solar panels. At the same time, the pandemic caused many copper mines in countries like Peru and Chile to slow down or shut down completely. The supply chain has been further constrained due to logistic challenges, including congested ports and a backlog of shipping containers around the world. As a result, the price of copper has surged to an all-time high, reaching close to $10,000 per metric tonne. This price surge, coupled with the supply chain constraints, has led to concerns about the impact on global growth and inflation. The copper squeeze has become a serious concern for industries that depend on copper supply. For example, the automotive industry could be hit hard, given the reliance on copper for cars, trucks, and buses. Electric vehicles need four times more copper than traditional internal combustion engines, and this demand is expected to increase in the coming years. Moreover, homebuilders and electricians are going to find the metal’s soaring price a significant challenge as they depend heavily on copper for wiring and plumbing. In conclusion, a copper squeeze is a genuine concern for global industries and could have broader implications for the global economic recovery. Companies across sectors are already feeling the impact of shortages, high prices, and logistic constraints. Governments and companies need to work together to manage the current situation tactfully and plan ahead to avoid major disruptions in the future Metal scrap recovery and reprocessing Scrap copper authentication Copper scrap cleanliness standards Bare bright copper recycling Copper scrap cleanliness standards Scrap metal compaction
